Many women benefit from having well groomed eyebrows. The most popular method
to get this done is by plucking the eyebrows with a pair of tweezers. Another
method is to remove the excess hair by waxing the eyebrow area. Although both
methods are generally quick and easy to do, they can bring about some level of
pain and discomfort. If you would like to pluck or wax your eyebrows without the
pain, there are some steps that you can take to make the pain more manageable.
Here are a few ones that you can try.
1. Prepare the eyebrow area. To make plucking and waxing easier, it’s best to
make sure that the hair that you will pluck or wax off has been softened. Get a
warm washcloth and place it over your eyebrows for at least ten minutes. This
should help soften the hair and aid in opening up the pores of the skin. You can
also pluck your hair after you have taken a shower or after you have steamed
open the pores of your skin. 2. Prepare your tools. If you will pluck your
hair, only use tweezers that are sharp and have been cleaned. Disinfect the
tweezers by wiping them down with some rubbing alcohol. The tips of the tweezers
should meet evenly at the tips and you should have a good grip on the tool. If
you will wax the hair off, then heat the wax properly for at least ten minutes
till you have reached the right consistency and temperature. If it is not warm
enough, you’ll have a difficult time waxing the hair off and it will be more
painful. 3. Take an anti-inflammatory before you get the procedure done. At
least half an hour before you are planning to wax or pluck, take some ibuprofen.
This should help minimize any swelling and discomfort caused by plucking and
waxing. 4. Use some topical anesthesia over the area. If you have Anbesol or
Orajel, place a bit over the brow area. This will help numb the area so you get
start plucking and waxing the area. Do this right before you start the procedure
since the numbing effect of these products doesn’t last too long. 5. Get it
done by a professional. If you go to a salon that specializes in eyebrow
shaping, you won’t experience as much pain as when you do the procedure
yourself. For one thing, the aesthetician will be able to do a quicker job than
you can, thereby minimizing the amount of pain you’ll be exposed to. For
another, the tools will be salon grade and ready to use.
Vanity has a price and oftentimes, to achieve some level of beauty, you do
need to experience a bit of discomfort or pain. Once you get your eyebrows done,
the results should last at least a week. For maintenance, use a pair of tweezers
to remove any new hair growth. This way, you won’t have to wax the eye area as
often. Finally, remember that the more you wax and pluck the eyebrow area, the
more you will get used to the pain. This means that you’ll eventually reach a
point when it won’t be painful anymore.
